The Dorchester Canadians organization was formed in 1989 by a group of charter members who had gained considerable experience in senior slopitch through their participation in numerous tournaments with a London team. During the 1989 baseball season the team participated, for the first time, in the Mount Clemens, Michigan tournament. That same year the Canadians won the Ontario Tournament held in London and became Ontario's 50+ Champions, qualifying them to participate in the inaugural Seniors Softball World Series held in September that year, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Dorchester Canadians have participated in many tournaments and these include the Canadian National Championships, the Ontario Provincial Championships and various qualifying tournaments of American organizations such as Senior Softball USA. We have travelled to Elgin, Illinois; Champaign, Illinois; Rochester, New York; Akron and Columbus, Ohio and Lakeland, Florida to name but a few. The mens 65+ team qualified for the World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona in October 2008, have won a large number of U.S. tournaments, and also won their division at the 2010 Huntsman World Seniors Games in St. George, Utah.
At the 2007 season ending gathering a "Founders Trophy" was initiated. This trophy will permanently hold the names of the charter members of this league and it will be presented annually to the playoff
champions.
The Dorchester Canadians International Tournament was first organized in 1990 and initially involved seven American teams and eight Canadian teams. This tournament grew to be the largest Seniors Tournament held in Canada, hosting the maximum 64 teams from all over North America, in August. This tournament was extremely successful for 20 years, but has been placed on hold due to declining attendance caused by travel restrictions, exchange rate increases, and competition from other tournaments.
We currently operate an 8 team mens 50+ league.
