SPO Player Guidelines

News from SPO

For your information Slo Pitch Ontario (SPO) is lobbying the Provincial Government to lower restrictions on recreational sports activities. From SPO's information, the local municipalities  will have a large part in how rules will be interpreted and enforced. There have been some changes implemented by SPO (Slo-Pitch Ontario) around player registration that differ from previous years. In past years the league has done all player registrations and paid the registration fees to SPO on behalf of the teams. Moving forward it will be the players responsibility to register themselves with SPO and pay a $15 registration fee.
The executive will be updating budget information and setting player fees for 2021 during the next 2 months.

For more SPO information go to SPO Guidelines in menu bar.

From Slo-Pitch Ontario: TO ALL SPO PLAYERS
As you may or may not know, your League registers each year with Slo-Pitch Ontario. Registering with SPO provides the League Executive with liability insurance, provides players with liability and secondary accident and health insurance coverage, as well as scorebooks, Invitations to the SPO Provincial Championships, rating information, and access to awards, deals for balls, and even advice, if needed. Your League has always incorporated those fees into the team and player fees you were charged to play in the league.
NEW THIS YEAR, SPO is implementing Individual Member Registration, where participants will register with SPO and pay an annual Membership Fee. Besides ensuring that all team contacts, players, and coaches are properly registered and insured each season, registered SPO Members will get added value for their Membership.
Frequently Asked Questions...
What will the cost be?
For the 2021 season, each Member will pay a $15 Membership Fee. With that, you’ll get access to SPO’s brand-new Mobile App that features your own Membership Card, Member Number and your Profile Information showing your team(s), league(s) and event(s), and exclusive deals and promos from SPO’s corporate partners with the SPO Rewards Program!
What happens if someone in the League doesn't register? Can they still play?
If someone doesn't register and complete the payment process, they are not an eligible Member of SPO and will not have proper insurance coverage*. As soon as they’ve completed their registration, they can play! (*The registration process includes accepting a Release, Waiver & Indemnity Agreement. All Team Contacts will need to ensure that ALL players on their team are registered and ACTIVE in order to be eligible to play.) The process of logging in and registering to become Active each season is not new to most who have played SPO. It is a mandatory requirement in order to play.
What if someone plays on more than one team, or in different SPO Leagues? Do they pay multiple times?
No! You need only one Account in the SPO Member Registration System (the “MRS”) for any and all of your roles - whether it’s as a League President, Team Contact, Player, or Coach - or all of them! The annual fee is paid once per season and allows a player to play on as many teams as they wish - subject to any conditions or guidelines relevant to playing ability.
What if a player is in the Super Series or Senior Circuit? Does the registration process change?
Members who participate in the Super Series and/or Senior Circuit Programs are already familiar with registering and paying a program fee prior to becoming Active in the MRS. They’ll login and register as a Member, and then pay for any additional program(s) they participate in.
I don’t have an email address. How can I register?
Can my Team Contact register for me?
All Members require a unique email address to register as a SPO Member. As we said above, the registration process includes accepting a Release, Waiver & Indemnity Agreement and this must be done by each participant. Not only does this help to protect everyone’s privacy, completing the registration process for someone else is not legal, and puts that person at risk of liability. We’ve tried to make the registration process as easy as possible, and assistance with registering is always available through the SPO Office Staff or SPO Zone Directors.
